Experience You Can Trust.
Protecting Your Records Like Our Own.
Nine-Year Veteran of the Recorder's Office • Current Deputy Recorder • Des Moines Native • University of Iowa Graduate
About the Candidate
Lisa J. Chiodo has spent nine years in the Polk County Recorder's Office, working her way from Vital Records and Real Estate to her current role as Deputy Recorder — the office's second-highest position. She oversees daily operations and staff, and she knows this office inside and out.
She is running to succeed retiring Recorder Julie Haggerty, ensuring a seamless transition with no interruption in service to the residents and businesses of Polk County who depend on the office every day.
When Polk County residents buy a home, register a recreational vehicle or boat, or obtain a marriage license, they trust the Recorder's Office to get it right. Lisa has spent nearly a decade earning that trust — and she's ready to lead it.
Campaign Priorities
The Recorder's Office quietly underpins some of the most consequential moments in a resident's life. Lisa's priorities reflect what the job actually demands — and what Polk County deserves.
As Deputy Recorder, Lisa is uniquely positioned to lead an uninterrupted transition from Julie Haggerty's tenure. Polk County residents should never have to worry about disruption in this office — and they won't.
Property fraud and cybercrime are evolving threats nationwide. Lisa is committed to maintaining the strong security practices already in place, coordinating with state partners, and making responsible improvements that genuinely add value — staying ahead of evolving risks without disrupting systems that work well.
The people who come through the Recorder's doors are often at important moments in their lives. Lisa believes they deserve an office that is accurate, respectful, and dependable — every single time, without political drama.
"Polk County already has strong systems and a tradition of excellent service. My job is to protect that, build on it, and make sure the transition from Julie Haggerty's leadership is seamless. The public shouldn't have to worry about this office — and they won't." — Lisa J. Chiodo
Her Story
Lisa J. Chiodo is a Des Moines native who has spent her entire adult life in the metro area, building a career rooted in public service and a genuine commitment to her community.
Before joining county government, Lisa worked across a range of people-centered fields — childcare, hospitality, and education, including time as a substitute teacher in local elementary schools. These experiences gave her something no classroom can teach: how to listen, how to serve, and how to show up for people at every stage of life.
Nine years ago she joined the Recorder's Office, where she worked in both the Vital Records and Real Estate departments before rising to Deputy Recorder. In 2024 she earned a certification in Human Resource Management with honors — a reflection of her commitment to professional growth and organizational leadership.
Lisa and her husband Frank have been married since 1997 and make their home in West Des Moines. They are the proud parents of three sons: Nick, Louie, and Frankie.
